Kyle hits late leveller

Super sub Maclean rescues Clach a point Print
A dramatic injury time leveller from Kyle Maclean earned 10-man Clachnacuddin a share of the spoils when defending champions Cove Rangers visited Grant Street Park as the Toonsers slipped down to third place in the Highland League table.

The home side started brightly and a ball in from Adam Naismith on four minutes allowed Stuart Leslie to challenge Cove goalkeeper Stuart McKenzie on the edge of the six-yard box but the shot stopper managed to punch clear.

Just three minutes later, the home side opened the scoring when a shot from Andrew MacAskill from the corner of the 18-yard box found the net with the aid of a slight deflection as the on-loan Inverness CT midfielder scored his second goal in three games since his move to Grant Street.

MacAskill almost doubled his tally when he was picked out by Allan Pollock on 26 minutes but his effort from just outside the box flew past the right hand post.

Three minutes later, Martin Johnston's pass found Barrie Stephen just inside the box but his low shot went past the right side David Harrison's goal.

The visitors drew level on 32 minutes though when a free kick into the Clach box by Stephen was knocked down by Jamie Buchan and the former Aberdeen midfielder smashed a low drive into the back of the net.

Parity lasted for just six minutes though as the home side got their noses in front on 38 minutes. John MacAskill collected the ball from a cleared corner and rounded goalkeeper McKenzie. With the angle against him, he clipped the ball back into the danger area and found Gordon Morrison who crashed home an overhead kick.

Any thoughts Clach had of taking a lead in with them at the break were erased just a minute before half time when Johnston found Danny Milne at the edge of the box and despite Harrison getting a touch to the former Inverurie Locos striker's low effort, there was too much power on it and it nestled in the bottom corner.

Half time: Clachnacuddin 2 Cove Rangers 2

Cove conjured up the first chance of the second half when Milne managed to get his head on the end of a cross into the six-yard box on 69 minutes but his header was caught by the goalkeeper before Johnston's shot following a Stephen corner went just over the bar.

Clach were then reduced to 10 men when Mark Kennedy saw red for a second bookable offence on 74 minutes and just seven minutes later, Cove made their numerical advantage count when Eric Watson rose to head the ball into the top left hand corner following a Toonsers corner.

However, there was late drama to follow as Clach snatched a share of the spoils deep into injury time with a goal out of nothing. Substitute Kyle Maclean ran in on goal as he got away from the visiting defence before showing a cool head to place the ball into the bottom left hand corner and earning himself a yellow card for his wild celebrations.
