Wick Academy made it a brace of 5-2 league wins over Clachnacuddin this season as they defeated the Lilywhites for the third time this season by running out comfortable winners at Harmsworth Park.

The Scorries went in front after a quarter of an hour. A Wick corner was headed clear but only as far as Gary Weir at the edge of the box. He saw his effort blocked by a Clach defender but Academy midfielder Sam Mackay showed cat-like reactions to latch onto the ball and smash a 16-yard volley beyond visiting goalkeeper Murray Kinnaird.

Seven minutes later, the home side were two goals to the good. David Allan's perfectly-weighted pass was latched onto by Richard MacAdie and he showed all the composure in the world to delicately clip the ball beyond the out-rushing Kinnaird.

Clach rarely threatened in the first half although they did give the home side a scary moment on 37 minutes when the ball bounced around in the Wick penalty area but no Lilywhite was able to apply the finishing touch as Academy snuffed out the threat.

Half time: Wick Academy 2 Clachnacuddin 0

Clach pulled a goal back six minutes after the restart. That man Gordon Morrison stepped up to fire home a 22-yard free kick to net his 25th goal of the season and keep him out in front at the top of the scoring charts.

However, the Inverness club's hopes of hauling themselves level suffered a major setback just 60 seconds later as Wick restored their two-goal lead. Gary Weir fed David Allan down the left and he pulled the ball across the face of goal to the back post where Richard MacAdie knocked home his second of the game.

The hosts left the visitors with a mountain to climb by adding goal number four on 63 minutes. MacAdie turned provider as he whipped in a fine corner that found the head of David Allan and the Scorries top scorer planted the ball beyond Kinnaird.

Just a minute after coming on as a substitute, Steven Cunningham added his name to the score sheet. The attacking midfielder strode through the Clach defence before placing the ball home on 79 minutes.

Clach pulled another goal back on 85 minutes when returning defender Colin Williamson was unmarked to meet a well-flighted ball into the danger area and send a header beyond the grasp of Wick goalkeeper Allan Bokas.

Full time: Wick Academy 5 Clachnacuddin 2
